Patanjali Yogpeeth participates in a Nationwide Yogathon - August 29, 2010

The Arya Samaj Greater Houston temple was one of the sites in a nation-wide Yogathon campaign organized by the Hindu American Seva Charities (HASC) on Saturday August 28th and Sunday, August 29th, 2010. HASC planned the Yogathon in the spirit of President Obama’s “Active Lifestyle Challenge", and as part of the United We Serve – Let’s Read, Let’s Move campaign.

The Yogathon was a nationally coordinated event to provide an explanation of Yoga philosophy and its benefits along with one hour workshop on Asanas and Pranayama. It also included an open house with an introduction of the temples to the community.
Yoga has become a universal language of physical and spiritual exercise in the United States, crossing many lines of religions and cultures. According to Anju Bhargava, HASC co-founder, “Our community is just beginning to understand the leading role that faith-based organizations play in this country. As the broad and inclusive Hindu community, this is our time, and we are working to bring the very best of our culture to American civic life.”

The Arya Samaj event was organized in partnership with the Patanjli Yogpeeth (USA) Trust. The organizers at the Arya Samaj decided to hold the event on two days, even though the nationally it was a one day event on Sunday, August 29. More than 125 people of different communities attended the 2-day event. The Yogathon started with Shekhar Agrawal, a Patanjali Yogpeeth Yog Teacher, making a presentation on the traditions and concepts of Yoga, as well as the ancient origins of the science of Yoga contained in the Vedas. It was interesting to hear the concept that Yog is not a mere best exercise technique, but, it is a tool that unites mind, body, and soul assisting one on a journey to reaching the profound state of Self Realization. This is a concept often ignored in the fast paced modern life where we are all looking for instant results of physical fitness and weight loss. Mr. Agrawal informed that freedom from physical and mental ailments are the by-products of yoga practice in one’s daily life.
Shekhar Agrawal followed the presentation of the theory and history of Yoga with an energetic demonstration of various Asans, with specific benefits for various parts of the body. The participants followed along enthusiastically. This was followed by Pranayam – Controlled Breathing. Pranayam is based on the concept that breath is the source of life in the human body and when it is regulated, it makes the body disease free and prepares the mind for a higher awareness leading to Meditation. The Yog practice ended on a light note with Hasyayoga (Laughter Yoga) with the hall resounding with laughter.

We are very fortunate and blessed to have Houston as the central location for P.P. Swami Ramdevji's mission to spread Yoga and Ayurveda in the U.S. We have so much support from the people of Houston and across the country to build the Pathanjali Yogpeeth here.
Outside India, there are already numerous persons who watch Swamiji daily on Aastha and ZeeTV, but for many of them, the only way to get the Ayurvedic Herbal supplements what Swamiji talks about, is from India. We are looking to fulfill that void by making these products accessible to everyone starting with our retail center here in Houston. We have also set up an online store at www.divyaproducts.com so that anyone in the U.S. can get the same products that we are offering locally in Houston. If you would like to become a stockist for Divya and Patanjali products or have any other questions please send us an email at sales@divyaproducts.com. We look to further promote and achieve pujya Swamiji's vision of a disease free world through Yoga, Pranayam and Ayurved.

First International- Centre of Patanjali Yogpeeth at Housoton, U.S.A.

On July 19 at Houston, Texas, Bhumi Poojan of Patanjali University and Yogpeeth was conducted by Swami Ramdev Ji. Speaking on the occasion he said, "All of us want ailing persons to become healthy. If knowledge and practice of yoga can help to achieve that objective then it should not be rejected." The new centre will be built on approximately 100 acres land in Rosenberg suburb of Houston and will offer yoga and ayurveda teachings and treatments.

On being asked the reason for establishing Yog Peeth at Houston, Swami Ji said, " Houston being a seat of worldwide medical science and education has been chosen for yoga centre. " This centre will have vedic gurukul, herbal garden, vaanprastha ashram, digital vedic library and museum and will undertake research, clinical control trials, propagation of yoga and pranayam.

Presence of reputed science institutions like NASA, St. Looks Heart Institute, University of Texas, M.D. Enderson Cancer Institute and University of Houston in the neighbourhood will facilitate scientific interactions as well.

On this occasion, general secretary of Patanjali Yogpeeth (india) Acharya Bal Krishna said that the positive results of clinical trial test reports conducted at Patanjali Yogpeeth will open new rays of hope in medical science. "Our age-old vedic knowledge will provide the most sought after peace, moral values and help in building a bond of humanity amongst nations," he said.
"You treat the symptom whereas I treat the system," Swami Ramdev Ji informed the distinguished gathering about the efficacy of yogic exercises, especially breathing exercises. Swami Ji demonstrated eight types of breathing exercises and explained the benefits of each.
